Those with babies or tots have found a new place to go with the establishment of AGAP’s new monthly endeavour. Organised by Rachel Callaghan, wife of AGAP’s director, The Reel Kids Cinema Club is a new venture to encourage a warm, friendly environment in which parents or grandparents can enjoy a family-friendly film along with their little one.
“As a parent myself, I value opportunities to spend time with my baby son and in the company of others who also have babies,” said Rachel. As a former parish youthworker in the Diocese of Dunkeld, Rachel has plenty of experience of running activities for children and young people but Reel Kids is a little different. “At Reel Kids, parents take responsibility for their own children and stay with them throughout. That’s important as we’re not offering childcare but a place to come and bond with our own little ones.”
After the film is shown on AGAP’s 10ft screen, parents have the opportunity to reflect on one or two themes that relate to parenting. AGAP’s Creative Director, Stephen Callaghan added, “I think that this is a great idea. Family is at the heart of the Church’s teachings and it’s important to make the cinema experience accessible. Our license ensures that the screenings are free of charge. In the interests of health and safety and licensing, we can only take limited numbers so please make sure to contact us if you would like to book a place.”
Reel Kids Cinema Club meets on the 2nd Friday of each month at 1pm and takes place in the John Paul II Studio at AGAP, St Mungo’s Retreat, 52 Parson Street, Townhead, Glasgow G4 0RX. To enquire or register interest, please contact AGAP on 0141 552 5527 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
